Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay claims that the team’s players have already embraced Erik ten Hag’s management style.

In an effort to turn around United’s fortunes after their recent on-field troubles, Dutchman Ten Hag has been working closely with the team’s players for the past two weeks, putting them through demanding training sessions and explaining the style he wants to play.

The former Ajax manager is hands-on in training, frequently pausing sessions to discuss a certain point or style of play. According to McTominay, United’s players have been accepting of his management style and techniques.

Last season, United’s players criticized the aggressive tactics used by interim manager Ralf Rangnick, but McTominay claimed that Ten Hag’s strategies have the support of the team’s players. In terms of communicating with the players, “He’s got a notion of the way he wants to play, and he executes it really, very well,” said McTominay.

“Mitchell [van der Gaag, assistant coach] is experiencing the same thing. The principles and concepts behind our playing style [are] readily apparent. Now it’s up to us as athletes to fully internalize the message and push throughout the entire year. We are here to work hard, the manager said again. We’re not here to travel about and take in all the sights.

The Scotland international McTominay has expressed excitement ahead of the season opener against Brighton and Hove Albion and has agreed with what Ten Hag expects from his team. As Ten Hag’s assistants on the tour, Steve McClaren, a former England manager, and Mitchell van der Gaag have made a good impression.
