Frenkie de Jong has assured Manchester United that he is willing to join the team if Barcelona’s obligation to him is paid.

The Dutchman is United boss Erik ten Hag’s top transfer target this summer, and it’s been reported that a deal worth €65 million plus €20 million in bonuses has been reached.

The transaction appears to have stagnated, and over the past several days, a number of rumours have suggested that De Jong is unwilling to transfer to Old Trafford.

The specifics of those assertions were laid out in yesterday’s Peoples Person, along with an explanation of why they are unlikely to have much of an impact.

Now, James Ducker of The Telegraph, a renowned expert on United’s affairs, has confirmed that opinion.

Frenkie de Jong has offered Manchester United guarantees that, if his wage disputes with Barcelona can be settled, he is eager to transfer to Old Trafford, Ducker reported late last night.

De Jong is reportedly scheduled to return to training with Barcelona on Monday, but sources say that despite claims in Spain that the player has no intention of leaving the Catalan club, United has been given encouragement that he is still open to the move. If that were not the case, a deal would not have advanced this far, according to the sources.

“The Dutchman’s agreed-upon salary are at the center of the deadlock.
