According to reporter Mike Verweij, United submitted a bid of €45 million in cash and €5 million in variables late last week that satisfied that need. Many people believed that would be sufficient to close a transaction.

The Dutch team was reportedly pondering the offer while watching to see if Arsenal countered United’s.

He further asserts that the athlete is now pleading with his team to engage in negotiations.

“Lisandro Martnez is COMMANDING Ajax to talk with Manchester United, but despite its offer of €45 million plus €5 million in bonuses, Ajax is refusing to do so.

Verweij is cited as saying, “In fact, they are now looking for an offer of €60M.”

If Verweij, who is usually trustworthy, is correct, it might be time for United to look elsewhere for a center back.

The current asking price is almost twice as much as the 24-year-Transfermarkt.com old’s valuation of €32 million.

David Carmo of Braga, who just signed a €20 million transfer to FC Porto, was reportedly a player the Red Devils were interested in but were unable to sign.

The elegant 22-year-old has already been hit with a €80 million release clause by the Dragons.
